The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Hispanic Coalition of Federal Aviation Administration Employees - NHCFAE, will partner this year with the Masterflight Foundation, to help students discover the thrill and enchantment of flight at the July 2007 Waukegan Area Masterflight Aerospace Career Exploration (ACE) Academy. The ACE academies are summer educational programs for middle and high school students that can last from one day to one week.
The July 2007 Waukegan Area Masterflight ACE Academy is sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) along with many other organizations including the National Hispanic Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees - NHCFAE, George Williams College/ Aurora University, The Experimental Aviation Association, and the Civil Air Patrol – United States Air Force Auxiliary.
The focus is on aviation career exploration with emphasis on opportunities for women and minorities. Students will experience flying airplanes, instruction in the physics of flight, meteorology, Air Traffic Control Communications, and much more.
They will go on field trips to an Airport Control Tower, Chicago Air Route Traffic Control Center, and the Oshkosh Air Venture. Hands-on activities will include building and launching model rockets.
“Learning to fly was so exciting
– it motivated me to
excel in science, math, and technology –
I ended up graduating with honors!”
Leadership development, communication, motivation, commitment, creative thinking, cooperation, trust, goal setting, confidence, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision-making are developed and improved at the Masterflight ACE Academy.
The ACE Academy participants will experience a Challenger Center Mission. Using the concept of simulation as an instructional tool, Challenger Center programs create exciting, cooperative learning environments that encourage long-term interest in math, science and technology and motivate students to pursue careers in these fields.
The Challenger Learning Center provides visitors and students with an interactive computerized simulation of a Mission Control and a spacecraft for exploration.

The National Hispanic Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees is a professional organization acting as an advocate for equitable representation and opportunities in employment, development, and leadership.
NHCFAE was established in 1978 in an effort to provide a network for Hispanic employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Aviation Industry. It became a national organization in 1983. Today, the Coalition is the chief advocate for issues affecting Hispanics in the FAA. The Coalition derives its support from membership dues, corporate sponsorship and private donations.
